Tamaracks are Wisconsin’s only native coniferous tree that is not an evergreen. The trees can be found throughout Wisconsin, but their numbers are dropping. Since 2000, over 150,000 acres of tamaracks have died across the Great Lakes states due to warmer temperatures, droughts and the eastern larch beetle, according to Treehaven at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
