Cherry Beach along Lake Michigan grows, an ’emotional’ win in push to save shoreline

In Michigan, locals prevailed in an impassioned effort to save a local beach and dunes from development, fueled by a large state grant and more than 800 donors. Cherry Beach grew from a tiny 253 feet of Lake Michigan shoreline to 657 feet, a 404-foot expansion onto sand that locals had already been using for a century.
