A mallard wearing a tracking device? DNR researchers are taking a high-tech look at habitat preferences

A new study involves placing transmitters on hen mallards in the Great Lakes region. The tracking devices will allow researchers to document hen movements and habitat use, estimate the number that return to the same breeding, staging and wintering areas and estimate survival and productivity rates.
